AP, action potential; Vm, resting membrane potential of the cell; Rm, membrane input resistance; Tau, estimated single time constant; Sag index, degree of time-dependent inward rectification estimated from the change in membrane potential from initial peak to steady state upon hyperpolarizing current injection; AP threshold, membrane potential at which an action potential was elicited; AP duration, estimated at half-maximal amplitude relative to threshold; f mean, frequency of spontaneous action potential firing at resting conditions; f max, maximal frequency of action potential firing estimated from the time interval between the last two spikes before depolarization blockage evoked by depolarizing current ramps; Adaptation index, action potential accomodation estimated comparing interspike intervals at the onset and the end of a given depolarizing pulse; AHP amplitude, value of membrane potential difference between spike threshold and peak hyperpolarization following transient depolarizing current injection; Rebound response, occurence of rebound burst firing within a given cell class estimated as percentage of neurons generating low threshold spikes and accompanying trains of fast action potentials upon hyperpolarizing current injection; N, number of cells. Values are means±S.E.M.⁎P<0.05;#value estimated from interburst interval; n.d., not detected. See list for abbrevations of different classes of LHb neurons.
