Values are reported as the means±SE for each class of neurons projecting to the same target. Each class of projection neuron was assigned a number (1–4) and statistics were calculated from one-way ANOVAs followed by the Scheffe post hoc test to compare means of pairs of projection neuron classes. Significant differences between pairs are indicated by the P value followed by the projection neuron class (1–4) to which it was compared.

* P < 0.05,

** 0.01,

*** 0.001. CThal, CTrig, and CStr, corticothalamic, corticotrigeminal, and corticostriatal; AP, action potential; FI, firing current; fAHP, fast afterhyperpolarization; DAP, depolarizing afterhyperpolarization.
