Table 1. Location and firing properties of L5 neurons in mPFC

Cortex PrL IL IL IL
All values are means ± s.e.m.; **ANOVA P < 0.01. Half-width and AHP were significantly different between all groups except between PrL-PYR vs. non-FS interneurons and PrL-PYR vs. IL-PYR respectively. Adaptation was significantly different between PrL-PYR, FS and non-FS interneurons. Note that for AP properties only cells with a spike height at or above +20 mV were included, leaving n = 4 (FS) and n = 16 (non-FS). aAHP, afterhyperpolarization; calculated as the difference between action potential threshold and the most negative level reached during the repolarizing phase. bSpike frequency adaptation was calculated as the ratio of the instantaneous frequency at the second and fourth spike interval in an action potential train (IL-PYR: n = 4, PrL-PYR: n = 10). cCalculated from total spikes elicited by 1-s-long current injections of 140 pA. df–i slope, firing frequency vs. injected current slope, with current injections ranging from 0 to 140 pA.
