No significant gender differences were observed in any general physiological parameters of OxtrCre neurons. Values shown are expressed as mean ± SEM.: To characterize neuronal membrane properties, the following parameters were measured: Vrest: resting membrane potential; recorded immediately after whole-cell configuration was established. Rin: input resistance; determined from the voltage change upon −50 pA current pulse at resting membrane potential. τm: membrane time constant; was determined at 63% of the maximal response to a −50 pA current pulse. Spike width: determined as spike width at the half maximum between action potential peak and threshold. SpikeAR: spike adaptation ratio; was defined as the ratio between the steady state spike frequency (last 3 spikes) and the initial spike frequency (first 3 spikes) of a 300 ms lasting, 200 pA current pulse. In spontaneous activity recordings, 100 nM Oxytocin (#1910, TOCRIS Bioscience, UK) was bath applied for 10 min, and the number of spontaneous action potentials counted. Wash-out experiments were done, 10 min after Oxytocin was removed from the bath. Gender differences were tested with student t test and response to oxytocin was analyzed by a student t test with Welch correction.
